This belt drive reduction unit is almost 6 inches less, in depth from engine to hub, than a gear box. This allows the engine to be farther back. The unit is about 3.5 inches more, input shaft to output shaft distance (up and down) than a gear box which allows the engine to be a little lower for better weight distribution. This all runs on roller bearings in an oil bath instead of grease so there is no grease fittings to mess with or grease slinging all over your boat. The belt is made by Gates because we wanted the best. All this, every nut and bolt, only weighs 59 pounds. A few pounds less than a gear box and about 100 pounds less than a conventional belt drive. Like putting a boat on a diet.
